the new filmmaker: You are a London/UK based collective of multi-disciplinary Artists, Directors and Writers who produce conceptual visual content. What is the idea and visual concept behind your short/music video Stanton Warriors: Turn Me Up Some?
Messrs.: We wanted to convey an idea of escapism with a pure response to the track, showing a mixture of characters at home in their own environment within an expansive urban metropolis. The track and video aims to release them into a surreal break from the ordinary and mundane. Leaving the viewer and protagonists unsure if what just happened was a reality.
tnf: What tasks and goals were set by the music label and the musicians?
Messrs.: No tasks or goals were set. It was an open brief which enabled us to achieve total creative freedom which we always try to insist on.We did however know to include certain locations relating to the Stanton Warriors vibe e.g. the Graffiti tunnel in South London and the rooftop basketball court in SoHo.
tnf: How did you guys became filmmakers? Studies or learning by doing?
Messrs.: Mr. Giorgio Bruni, Mr. Ralph Fuller, Mr. Toby Ross-Southall, & Mr. Towa Noel Shimizu studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, London. Mr. Ben Masson studied at the New York Film Academy. Mr. Mickey Voak was picked up like a stray dog and nursed back to full health after developing a rash from the chocolate lake on Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.Messrs. was founded on the idea of doing.
tnf: Who influenced your way of filmmaking? Do you have favourite film directors, writers or fine artists?
Messrs.: Messrs.like: Mark Rothko, Nick Roeg, Jean-Luc Godard, Anthony Mc Call, Bill Viola, Richard Serra, Robert Frank, Miles Davis, Spike Jonze, Len Lye, Stan Brackage, Mike Lewis, Graham Ellard, Eric Cantona, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Martin Scorsese, Hunter S.Thompson, Stanley Kubrick, Werner Herzog, Lars Von Trier, Roberto Baggio’s Ponytail.
tnf: What would be your advice for a first time filmmaker?
